Unusual and Interesting Vase and Bowl Pictures — I tried dying wood. I used clothes dye, here is how.
I took some liquid clothing dye, just a little and put it into a small plastic container. I let the water evaporate out of it, then I rediluted it with alcohol. When I put the wood into it, it was almost instant that I could see vains dye into the wood about 1 inch. I only let this wood sit about 24 hours, I am sure I would have had darker results if I let it sit longer and/or let it dry and soak it again.

Unusual and Interesting Vase and Bowl Pictures — I will in the future use a glueing jig to keep the blank lined up correctly. This was right on, on one side but a little twisted on the other. Also it is very important to make the inserts the same thickness as the wood that is cut out. In my case I used a saw blade about 3/16 inch and had pieces that fit into the cut snugly. If you don't pay attention to the thickness your lines won't line up.

Unusual and Interesting Vase and Bowl Pictures — Made using maple and dyed maple. The inside is not finished on this one, but it is hollowed out and the pattern is visible from the inside. I will be making more of these in the future. I think they're cool.
