Making this yarn bowl for Linda's Xmas present 2023. It will match our coffee table because it is made from cut-offs from it. And the slab/tree used for the table top was once in a fire long before it was cut down. Many challenges with it.
This is what they look like glued up. I used hanger iron and a small bolt but a large gear clamp would work too. I will be painting the oak(white) one. And yes it is a bad photo, they are both the same size.
I put these clamps on for a few minutes just until the glue starts to catch.
While the glue was drying, in the previous photo. I took and carved the top ring some and charred it black with a torch.
Turning the inside.
Cut out the spot to have the yarn feed through. One pig tail type and two holes.
Tried walnut stain on the oak. Big mistake, it's ok on the side. But on the quarter sawn base it is ugly, sanded most of it off.
It matches our coffee table.
I think Linda will be pleased. Merry Christmas!
